It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in the world we live in. Masses of information flow freely and news travels instantly. Before we know it, we can be so disconnected from the world around us that we lose bits of life, moments slip away. What is most important to us can seem to slip away as well. The purpose and appreciation of life fades.
I believe moments are beautiful, elusive, and worth capturing. My goal as an artist is to paint moments in time, locking them in place for the viewer. I believe every home, business, and public space should be filled with art to inspire "re-mindfulness", a reminder for us to give attention to what we love in life. Unlike so many investments we make, art can freeze in time what may otherwise pass us by. Fine art captures those moments forever.
Surrounding oneself with art can be a much needed and gently pressed break from the rush of life. A glance at an expansive oil landscape at sunset, a portrait of an innocent child, or a fascinating abstract can return one to the now, providing clarity and perspective. I believe beauty can even bring hope to the hopeless. My desire is to use art to encourage people to see something beautiful, take a moment, re-coup, re-set, and breath again.
Education and Experience
A BFA from Montclair State University with a emphasis in print making gave Michaelann a great appreciation for design and love for process.
After a career hop into corporate IT software training, and a detour to home educate her two beautiful children, she turned her attention back to the creative life.
Michaelann has studied under nationally and internationally known artists such as Colley Whisson, Roger Dale Brown, John Pototschnik, John P. Lasater IV, and Morgan Samuel Price, as well as excellent local instructors Chris Didomizio and Damon Carter. She also enjoys the challenge of self directed studies of great art writers and inspiring master artists and art history.
One of the most satisfying art related jobs she had was teaching art to middle and high school students for 12 years. Their creative energy was the inspiration for her to go back to art classes to sharpen her skills, turning her to an artist lifestyle.
Michaelann paints full time in her studio outside of Atlanta, Georgia, but often makes trips with her husband to paint en plein air in the southeast US.
